The lighting of the Tilikum Crossing Bridge incorporates color changing LED and DMX controls. Color is controlled by sensors in the Willamette River that monitor the rivers velocity, temperature and elevation. The control algorithms translate that information into light representing the 'mood' of the river.
Flaviano Reyes and Robert Klawa designed the lighting and control system within the parameters defined by the artist. They were awarded Section Awards for Lighting Control Innovation and Outdoor Lighting.
The project is the 2016 FC Baker Award of Distinction recipient for the use of lighting and controls.
